If you had used a travel agency, you wouldn't be in this quandary in the first place. Or you would have an expert to call to iron out any problems along the way.

DON'T DIY (DO-IT-YOURSELF) TRAVEL!

In most cases, your ticket, hotel and tour include the cost of the commission your supplier plans to pay to your selected travel agent. If you choose to go it alone, you still pay for service you don't get - the experience, knowledge and inclusive help of a travel agent. 

Travel agents use multi-million dollar computer systems called Global Distribution Systems to track minute-by-minute price changes of travel products around the world. You have no access to tools like this. 

Travel agents can find all-in pricing, the bottom line you pay, and compare packages to get you the absolute best value. Often, the cheapest advertised price is the highest price of all once 'taxes' and other hidden charges are tacked on. DIY and you might not find the bottom line until you get your credit card bill. 

Travel agents have been there, done that. Through Familiarization (FAM) tours and specialization courses, agents learn about prime destinations including the best hotels, best tours and best values. They have often been there before sending you there.

Travel agents know what documents, medications and insurance you need when travelling. Get it wrong by doing it yourself and you're in for a world of difficulty.

Travel agents help keep you safe and having fun and, if things do go wrong, your travel agent can help you get home and get your money back. Do it yourself and you are very much on your own all the way out and back.
